Teachers > Instructional Material
This section of the SAB website provides acces to instructional material that
is used during the Summer residency program. The material is provided as instructional
material that can be used by any educators.
Teacher Kits The
ideal teacher kit/packet is a collection of reference materials, supporting
documents, demonstration tools, and testing equipment used in the course of
science workshops lead by scientists, engineers, and industry-based professional
staff.
Water Samples The
instructions for collecting water samples.
Cottonwood Genetics In
classical genetics, and during our investigation we used three terms to describe
how the Cottonwood trees were assembled: Wildtype, Recessive, and Dominant.
Included in this document are descriptions of Wildtype, Recessive, and Dominant.
Atmospheric Measurement Purpose:
In this activity, you will learn to read some of the instruments used to measure
atmospheric conditions including temperature, air pressure, humidity, and wind
speed. Student groups will use the instruments to make measurements, record
data, and learn to make conversions between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Solar Radiation Sunlight
makes life on earth possible by warming the earth’s surface. You’ve
probably noticed that it feels hotter in the afternoon than in the early morning
or evening. You probably also know that the tropics are hotter than areas close
to the North or South Poles. In this lab, you will explore how the sun’s
angle affects the intensity of solar radiation received and influences global
temperatures.
Mapping Weather This
lesson discusses latitude and longitude, and includes instructions on how to
determine coordinates on a map.
Groundwater Model
Activity Questions to be answered after participating in the
groundwater model activity.
Bear Canyon Middle
Bear Canyon Erosion Study, Catalina Mountains, Tucson, Arizona. This lesson
was developed by the Laboratory of Tree Ring Research.
Cloud Lab Your
mission: You and your group are to design a small model of the water cycle
in which a “cloud” will form and precipitation will occur. You
can use any of the materials provided, but you are not required to use them
all. Once you have created your model, you will make observations about what
happens in your enclosed watercycle.
DNA Karyotypes This exercise is a simulation of human karyotyping using digital
images of chromosomes from actual human genetic studies. You will be arranging
chromosomes into a completed karyotype, and interpreting your findings just
as if you were working in a genetic analysis program at a hospital or clinic.
Timeline This 3 page timeline illustrates the Geologic Highlights of Southeastern
Arizona and Vicinity.
