The Arizona-Sonora e-Atlas Growth
and change in a binational region. This e-Atlas is the result of collaboration
between the Regional Development Program at the University of Arizona
Office of Economic Development (UAOED), and the Dirección de Desarrollo
Regional of the Centro de Investigación en Alimentación

Cananea The Cananea mining district is
located in the north-central part of the State of Sonora and 25 miles south of
the international border with the United States of America. The city’s
altitude varies from 5200 to 5400 feet above sea level. The Elenita Mountain
to the west, rises to an elevation of 8400 feet. Vegetation varies from sparse,
low brush to coniferous forests. Cananea, with a population of 35,000 is accessible
by paved highways and railroad. (English and Spanish)
Nacozari
de García Las primeras minas en la región de Nacozari de la
provincia de Sonora fueron descubiertas en 1660, y a la población que
se estableció en el lugar le denominó Nuestra Señora del
Rosario de Nacozari. En un mapa trazado por el padre Kino en 1701 aparece Nacozari

San Clemente
de Térapa The Opata village of San Clemente de Térapa
is located immediately south of the town of Moctezuma, in northeastern Sonora,
México. Paleontological research is being undertaken at this site and
is being conducted by
a
crew
of
paid undergraduate and graduate students from Northern Arizona University via
federal
funding.
Arturo
Baez
and Jim Mead
are the field supervisors. The intent is to have this site provide not only research
on the paleontological remains, but also provide experience to community members
and students in the earth sciences.
Southern Arizona, U.S.

City of Yuma, Arizona Located in the Yuma and Gila valleys of Southwestern
Arizona where Arizona, California, and Mexico converge. With a climate
that mixes pure desert sunshine with the cool waters of the Colorado River
and Gila Rivers, Yuma offers residents a year round vista of surrounding
rugged mountains and green agricultural fields.

City
of Tucson, Arizona Tucson
is located in Southern Arizona, one hour north of the U.S.- Mexican
border. Tucson's climate varies from the 2400 foot desert basin to
the 9100 foot forests of the Santa Catalina mountains. The City's dry
desert air and winter sunshine make it a popular health and winter
resort. The City is home to the University of Arizona and Davis-Monthan
Air Force Base. |

Arizona-Sonora Desert
Museum Located outside Tucson, Arizona, in Saguaro National Monument.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural history
museum and botanical garden, all in one place. The Museum offers interpretive
displays of living animals and plants native to the Sonoran Desert --
an arid region encompassing parts of Arizona and California in the United
States and the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California. (English
